What We Believe

At Oak Grove Church, we believe that you were created to belong.

Our Statement of Beliefs

We believe the Scriptures

We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are inspired by God and are the revelation of God to man. We believe the Scriptures in the original language are without error, infallible, and authoritative in every area of life and faith.

(2 Timothy 3:15- 17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13)

The Nature of God

We believe in one true God who is the creator and ruler of the Universe. We believe God exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe everything was created by Him and for Him.

(Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10-11)

.

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ is fully God (John 1:1). He is eternal, He was born of a virgin, and conceived by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:23). He lived a perfect life without sin (Hebrews 7:26). While here on Earth, He worked many miracles through the anointing of the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:38). He died on the cross as a substitute for the sins of every person (1 Corinthians 15:3). He was raised from the dead by the supernatural power of God (Matthew 28:6)

Jesus Christ

Humankind

Humankind was created good and upright in the image of God. However, humankind, by willful choice, ignored God’s instructions, choosing to engage in what they knew was wrong. As a result, humankind fell from innocence and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God.

(Genesis 1:26-27, 2:17, 3:6, Romans 5:12-19)

God offers salvation through Jesus Christ. Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work of reconciliation through His death, burial, and resurrection by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. Being justified by grace through faith, man becomes an heir of God according to the hope of eternal life.

(Luke 24:47, John 3:3, Romans 10:13-15)

Salvation

Baptism of the Holy Spirit

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the promise of the Father, sent by Jesus after His ascension, to empower the Church to preach the Gospel throughout the world (Joel 2:28-29, Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4, 1:8). The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is distinct from the experience of the new birth.

(Acts 8:12-17, 10:44-46)

Sanctification is a process that aligns us with God. Salvation is not the end of a Christian’s spiritual growth. Although we are declared holy, or sanctified, at salvation, there is still much spiritual growth to be experienced. As a believer submits to the work of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, they are progressively transformed into the image of Christ Jesus.

(Romans 6:1-11, 8:1-2, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 2:12-13)

Santification

Healing

God provides healing through the Atonement. Divine healing from God is an integral part of the Gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided in the Atonement. Healing is a privilege of all believers.

(Isaiah 53:4-5, Matthew 8:16-17, James 5:14-16)

We believe that the Holy Spirit is manifested through a variety of spiritual gifts to build and empower the Church for the work of ministry. All believers are commanded to earnestly seek the manifestation of the gifts in their lives.

(1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12:4-8)

Spiritual Gifts

Sacraments

We believe and practice two sacraments given to the Church: water baptism by immersion after receiving salvation and Holy Communion as a symbolic remembrance of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ for our salvation.

(Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 11:26)

We believe the Church is the body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with a divine appointment to fulfill the Great Commission as ambassadors for Christ through the ministry of reconciliation.

(Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22, Hebrews 12:23, John 17:11, 20-23)

The Church

The Second Coming of Christ

We believe Jesus Christ will physically and visibly return to the earth for the second time to establish His Kingdom. We are commanded to be ready as no man knows the day or the hour of His retur.

n (Matthew 24:42-44, 26:63-34, 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17)

We believe the followers of Christ have a sacred duty to identify with the visible church of Jesus Christ and should meet regularly with other believers.

(Hebrews 10:24-25)

The Christian Duty

Resurrection and the Blessed Hope

We believe the bodies of all Christians who have died will one day rise from their graves to meet the Lord in the air. Christians who have not yet died will be raptured, or caught up, with them to be with the Lord. Then Christians of all ages will live with God forever. The scriptural truth of the Lord’s soon return is The Blessed Hope.

(Romans 8:23, 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, Titus 2:13)

We believe every person will one day stand before the judgment seat of Christ to receive eternal life or death (Revelation 20:15, Hebrews 9:27, 2 Corinthians 5:10). We believe Heaven is the eternal home of all born-again believers (John 14:1-3, Revelation 7:15-17). We believe hell is the place of eternal torment for all who reject Christ as Savior.

(Revelation 20:10-15)

Judgment and Eternity

The Mission of the Church

We believe the Church, as described in the Bible, is made up of all people who have received forgiveness through Jesus Christ and placed their faith in Him alone as the only sacrifice for their sins (Acts 4:11-12). The Church is the body of Christ and includes all Christians regardless of age, race, gender, or denomination (Revelation 7:9). We believe God designed the Church for a purpose and mission – to go into all the world and make disciples (Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19-20). We believe that because God desires all to worship Him, our church serves as a corporate body in which people can worship God (1 Corinthians 12:13). We believe God wants to build a unified body mature in faith and knowledge like Jesus. Therefore, our church must be a channel of God’s purpose and power to equip and build people who are continually growing in the Lord and being transformed in the image of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16). Because we believe God wants all believers to demonstrate His love and compassion for all the world, our church is committed to loving people and helping those in need.

(Galatians 2:10, James 1:27)
